Gradian’s MD joins Turk’s Torpedoes to raise money for Kidney Research UK
Not content with having run London in the Marathon in 2011, Gradian’s Managing Director intends rowing London this Saturday 3rd September 2016.
Part of the Turk’s Torpedoes team, Damian Acklam and 5 other willing fundraisers will be rowing the 21.6 mile race along the Thames from the London Docklands to Ham at the weekend in an effort to raise awareness and critical funds for Kidney Research UK.
London’s River Marathon attracts some 330 crews worldwide with Damian and the team rowing a fixed seat Thames Cutter. The Thames Cutter is being kindly provided by Turk Launches with Turk’s MD, Richard Turk, also part of the Turk’s Torpedoes’ team of 6.
The Great River Race, as it’s known, is now in its 28th year. The annual event is attended by serious athletes, beginners and charitable fundraisers alike. Many well known names have had the honour of firing the cannon to start the race such as Sir Steven Redgrave, Sting, Dame Tanni Grey Thompson, Sir Trevor MacDonald and Jane Horrocks to name but a few.
Why Kidney Research UK?
The charity is Gradian’s ongoing charity of choice. Past fundraising efforts have included:
- “Wear your onesie to work” day
- Dry January
- The London Marathon
- The Great South Race
The reason behind Kidney Research UK being top of the list is a very personal one as Damian himself explains:
“One of my daughters has a very rare Kidney condition and ever since she was first diagnosed I’ve been making every effort I can to raise funds for research purposes. Whilst her condition is very rare, my hope is that the money raised will contribute towards finding the key to unlock the cause of her condition and other sufferers of Kidney diseases.
As a team we’re trying to raise £5,000 – so please dig deep and make a pledge to my Just Giving page.”
